Fit-up to the isometric
A spool is only correct if its geometry is correct, and geometry is set at fit-up. Pipe, fittings and flanges are positioned against the isometric drawing in fixed jigs — face-to-face dimensions, branch angles and flange orientations all locked in place before a single production weld is made.
Working in jigs on the shop floor, rather than in a trench or on a rack, means the fitter can rotate the work to the easiest position, check every dimension twice, and tack the assembly knowing it will not move. Errors that are almost inevitable in field assembly simply do not happen.
Welding
With the assembly tacked, joints are welded to qualified welding procedures — the right process, filler, and parameters for the material and service. Because the spool can be rotated, most welds are made in the most favourable position rather than overhead or in a corner.
That is the quiet advantage of shop fabrication: the same welder, the same procedure, and the same conditions, joint after joint. The result is repeatable, high-integrity welds — not a collection of one-off field welds each made under different constraints.
Dimensional & weld inspection
No spool leaves the shop on trust. Each one is checked dimensionally against its isometric — lengths, angles and flange faces — and its welds are inspected to the level the project specifies.
Catching a problem in the shop means it is repaired off the critical path, before coating, before transport, before a crane is standing idle on site. It is the difference between a correction and a delay.
Ready to install
Finished spools are marked and tagged to the isometric, so every piece can be identified on site. What arrives is not raw material but a finished component: cut, welded, inspected and coated.
For the field crew, installation becomes what it should be — position, align, bolt up. Site welding is reduced to the tie-in joints, schedules shorten, and quality moves from the trench into the workshop where it can be controlled.
