Surface preparation
No coating outlasts the surface it is applied to. Before anything is sprayed or applied, every spool is blast-cleaned to strip mill scale, weld residue and contamination back to sound metal, leaving the anchor profile the coating system needs to grip.
Surface preparation is where coating jobs are won or lost — a premium system applied over a poorly prepared surface fails early, and it fails everywhere at once. That is why preparation is treated as its own inspection stage, not a quick step on the way to the paint booth.
Protective coatings
The coating system is chosen for the service, not the other way round. Buried water transmission lines, exposed plant piping and marine environments each demand different protection — epoxy systems, fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE), hot-dip galvanizing, polyurethane and 3LPE are applied to suit the medium, the environment and the project specification.
Applying coatings in the shop, immediately after fabrication and blasting, means film thickness and curing conditions are controlled — and the spool ships with its protection already complete, rather than waiting for field painting at the mercy of the weather.
Internal lining
Corrosion does not only attack from the outside. Where the medium demands it, bores are lined — protecting the inside of the pipe against corrosion and abrasion from the fluid it carries.
Internal lining is applied and inspected in the shop for the same reason external coating is: the conditions can be controlled, and the finished bore can be verified before the spool is closed up into a system where no one will see it again for decades.
Marking & delivery
After coating, each spool is marked and tagged to its isometric and prepared for transport. Flange faces are protected, openings are covered, and the finished pieces are loaded so they arrive in the condition they left.
What reaches site is the end of the whole workshop chain — cut, fitted, welded, inspected, blasted and coated — a component with its full service life already built in, ready to bolt up and bury.
