What is spiral welded (SSAW / HSAW) pipe?
Spiral welded pipe is formed by helically coiling steel strip and joining the edges with a submerged-arc weld that runs in a spiral along the pipe. Because pipe diameter is not limited by strip width, it is the economical route to large-diameter water, penstock and line pipe.
What is the difference between SSAW and LSAW pipe?
SSAW (also called HSAW or SAWH) has a helical submerged-arc weld and is made from narrower strip, which makes large diameters economical. LSAW has a single straight longitudinal weld formed from plate, and is generally specified for high-pressure transmission lines and heavy walls.
